NAKASALEKA District School suffered significant damage during Severe Tropical Cyclone Keni that hit the island on Tuesday.

School headteacher Joji Voli said teachers’ quarters and their pre-school suffered a lot of damage from the cyclone.

“Three of our teachers’ quarters have been damaged, its roofs flew off due to the strong winds and the pre-school is completely damaged. The teachers and their families are being housed in the classrooms and we are trying to repair what we can right now,” Mr Voli said.

The school is located near Lomanikoro Village and has a roll of 89 students.

Mr Voli said their only source of water supply had also been damaged.

“The school’s only water supply, the water tank was blown away due to the strong winds. Now we have no water supply in the school. Without water, students can’t attend school so I am requesting if the Government could please assist us as we urgently need this.”

The school caters for students from the villages of Lomanikoro, Nakaunakoro, Koronawa and Nakaugasele.
