A 63-YEAR-old stepfather has been sentenced to 16 years imprisnment by the High Court in Labasa for raping his stepdaughter over a period of 10 years.
High Court judge Justice Paul Madigan told the man that to sexually assault and rape a child frequently over a period of 10 years was “unthinkably abhorrent”.
The court heard the man had been sexually abusing the girl since she was in class one and started raping her when she reached class eight until she was in form six.
In passing sentence, Justice Madigan said the man told the girl he was only raping her because her mother could not satisfy his sexual demands.
He said the man had threatened to kill her if she told anyone and on a few occassions while raping her, he had a kinfe with him.
A non-parole period of 13 years has been set.
