THE International Labour Organization (ILO) is seriously concerned about the breakdown in negotiations on labour law reforms between Government and the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC).

ILO assistant director-general Tomoko Nishimoto has already made her views known to FTUC leaders and says she will discuss the issue when she meets Employment, Industrial Relations and Productivity Minister Jone Usamate today.

Ms Nishimoto said she understood the standoff between Government and the FTUC stemmed from minimum wage disagreements and also the introduction of fixed term contracts.

“There are cracks in the system and it is very worrying,” she said.
