THE Taylor X-man competition for guitarists and aspiring guitarists will kick-start tonight at the Birdland Basement Bar from 6:30pm to 10pm.

The winner of the competition will be awarded the Tom Mawi Award and an acoustic Taylor brand guitar during the Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) awards night.

Tabs Investment managing director Uluibau Tabete said the award was aimed at recognising local guitar players and to develop their skills.

“Last year we asked guitar players, who are also members of the FPRA, to enter the competition by way of bringing in their work but in order to get a real feel of their guitar skills and the emotions of the playing, we decided this year to use a competition as a means for bringing in entries,” Mr Tabete said.

For those living in the West, the competition will be held at the Washdown Bar in Lautoka on April 5 from 6:30pm to 10pm.

The winners from both competitions will meet at the finals which will be held in Suva on April 19.

The head judge for the Taylor X-man competition is John Fong.
