St Thomas to face Lautoka Primary School

FAVOURITES St Thomas will face Lautoka Delana in the Lautoka Primary Schools Rugby Association under-14 final next week.

St Thomas defeated Natabua 14-5 in the semi-final at the Central Primary School ground yesterday.

In the other semi-final, Lautoka Delana thrashed Vitogo 24-3.

The U11 semi-final between St Thomas and Lautoka Andhra proved to be a cracker. Both teams were locked scoreless at fulltime forcing sudden death play.

After another scoreless first spell, St Thomas scored late in the second sudden spell to snatch a 7-0 victory.

The association’s president Sekove Vadei said Lautoka Andhra was unfortunate to lose after dominating possession.

Vadei said a few matches had to be decided in sudden death play.

“The U11 semi-final between St Thomas and Lautoka Andhra went down to the wire,” he said.

“Lautoka Andhra had the bigger forwards and had much of the possession. However they lacked finishing.

“There was a lot of interest in the girls’ tag rugby games. The boys’ U9 and U10 also played tag rugby as well.”

Vadei said all the teams would be featuring in the final day of competition next week.

“The schools would be playing for rankings in each category,” he said.

“This will also give the chance for the coaches to see the children in action before picking the Lautoka kaji teams.”
