STUDENTS of Koro High School in Lomaiviti, among those who suffered the full brunt of Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016, are expected to get a special treat next week with the Coca-Cola Games torch visiting them.
It will be part of the Powerade National Torch Relay that was launched at the Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd headquarters in Suva yesterday. Koro High School and St Thomas High School in Lautoka are the two new inclusions to host the torch.
Company general manager Roger Hare commended the sponsors for supporting one of Fiji’s annual sports competition.
“This is a very special sponsorship and it is more than just a partnership with the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association,” Hare said.
“We’re now on our 45th year in partnership with the Coke Games which we’re tremendously proud of and it is an incredible event that we should all be proud of.
“It is a world-class event and a pinnacle in secondary schools sport in Fiji.”
FSSAA president Marika Uluinaceva said: “We have come through some major challenges, especially with Tropical Cyclone Winston. Now in 2018, we are ready to roll.
“We are looking forward to another exciting games.”
The relay team will depart Suva on Monday visiting schools in Suva before sailing to Koro Island on Tuesday. The torch will also visit schools in Lami, Navua, Nausori, Tailevu, Taveuni, Savusavu, Macuata, Ra, Tavua, Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, Sigatoka and Navua before it is brought back to ANZ Stadium in Suva for the games.
