PRESIDENT of the Southern Zone Schools Rugby (SZSR) Napolioni Silatolu has urged the 48 schools participating in the competition to be disciplined.
The zone started its competition yesterday at the Suva Grammar School grounds with some players engaging in not just rucks and mauls but a bit of the sport of boxing.
In fact, the Under 16 match between Suva Grammar School and Ratu Sukuna Memorial School was stopped by referee Cama Soroaqali seven minutes before full time as players engaged in a brawl.
While SGS won 11-5, RSMS fresh from its NZ tour was the better team outclassing the Grammarians in most facets of the game.
But SGS was more tactical opting for penalty conversions instead, which made the difference.
SGS led 8-5 at half time, both sides had an unconverted try each with SGS adding a penalty to their scores.
The only points in the second half was from a penalty conversion by SGS.
The zone with 48 schools is the biggest in the Powerade FSSRU Super Deans Competition with schools as far as Naitasiri (Lomaivuna Secondary School) and Serua (Latianara Secondary School) competing.
Silatolu said one of the targets for the zone this year was to have as many schools from their zone qualify for the finals.
Ratu Kadavulevu School is the defending champion of all grades in Powerade FSSRU Super Deans Competition.
