COMMENTATORS said it aptly in their final comments that Fiji finished off Japan in style in a 45-12 opening pool match at the HSBC World Rugby Series Singapore 7s.

The Fiji Airways 7s side’s early points came from Sevuloni Mocenacagi in the 2nd minute, Paula Dranisinukula in the 5th minute and Alasio Naduva in the final minute before half time.

Although Fiji led 21-0 at half time, they opened the second half with a tough few minutes.

Eroni Sau’s unrelenting break in the Japanese defence earned points in both the 10th and 14th minute.

Captain Jerry Tuwai added salt to injury with a try in the 12th minute while Isake Katonibau secured Fiji’s high finish with a try in the 15th minute.

Amenoni Nasilasila’s three conversions and Waisea Nacuqu’s two extended Fiji’s leads.

Japan’s tries came from Taichi  Yoshizawa who scored in the 7th minute and converted his own try while Joseph Kamana’s try came in the 8th minute.

The national side play Russia next at 9.02pm.
