Shortage of blood, give the gift of life

THERE is a shortage of blood supply at Suva’s Colonial War Memorial Hospital.And the Ministry of Health and Medical Services is appealing to the public within the Suva subdivision to consider giving blood because of the shortage experienced in the past few days.
Medical superintendent of the CWMH Dr Jemesa Tudravu, in a statement, said the public could assist patients who needed urgent blood transfusions.
“The blood unit at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services usually conducts blood drives but sometimes the demand is high and we need immediate donations to cater for the need,” he said.
Dr Tudravu said people could visit the blood unit at the CWMH where they would be assisted by the blood bank staff members.
The ministry has also conveyed its most sincere appreciation to people who have on numerous occasions voluntarily given blood during blood drives.
