Sharma joins SODELPA

SINGLE parent Ezekiel Anirudh Sharma will contest the upcoming general election because he wants to strengthen unity among the people of Fiji.

The Batiri lad who is a former civil servant, evangelist and well-known social worker, will contest under the banner of Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA).

His interest in joining politics started early this year after a spiritual conviction.

After losing his wife 11 years ago, Mr Sharma felt returning to his childhood area of Macuata was best.

“So I left work and returned home to serve the Lord and continued to plant churches around the North. This is something I have also done with the leadership of God in my life, so planting churches is part of the profession,” Mr Sharma said.

“One day I read a book and it included biblical scriptures which really challenged me. It talked about how Christians should be the light and many Christians nowadays are shining their lights under the table.

“We should not do this. We should get out there and take leadership positions and influence leadership with our Christian values and principles.”

He believes uniting all races is of paramount importance.

“We need the right people to take leadership positions, and if we do not take the truth, some wrong will come and sell a lie,” Mr Sharma said.

“I prayed about joining a particular political party and the fact that SODELPA included in their Constitution rules based on Christian values and principals, I decided to be part of them.

“The positive influence of our former Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka also encouraged me to join. During his leadership he did a lot of good things.”

Mr Sharma said with God on his side, he would not fear anyone or anything.
