THE Malomalo Sharks rugby team is determined to show their worth against the powerful Tuva Highlanders in the semi-finals of the Nadroga Rugby Super Rugby competition.
Inspired by their 11-3 win over Wai Stormers last week, the Sharks are ready for the big bite against the Esala Nauga-coached Highlanders.
Team coach Rupeni Qaraniqio said battling against the Highlanders would be a tough ask for his players but was confident of a tough battle.
He said the Highlanders would be boosted by the presence of majority members of the main Nadroga team but his troops knew the expectation required of them.
Nadroga players for the Highlanders include Ratunaisa Navuma, Jone Navori, Jiuta Lutumailagi, Aisea Natoga, Avete Daveta, Tuiba Batiratu, Timoci Sauvoli and Jo Nahalo.
“The semi-finals would be a different ball altogether for the boys and it will be tough against the powerful Tuva team,” said Qaraniqio.
“But we don’t go for reputation we are going there to play rugby and we will do our best.
“The boys are eager for the big test.”
Former national rep Sekonaia Kalou is the only big name in the side while majority of the side would be dominated by young and enterprising players.
The Sharks are made up players from Malomalo, Naveisabasaba, Nalele, Vuama, Togobula, Naidiri, Batiri, Sanasana and neighbouring settlements
Meanwhile, the Sharks under 20 side has also secured its spot in the under 20 semi final and to face Sigatoka Bulls.
The game will be played at Lawaqa Park on Wednesday.
