SEMI Radradra dedicated his Player of the Final award to his Fiji Airways Fiji 7s teammates in London. “I found it tough today but I got help from the boys and was hanging in there,” the former NRL star said after the final.
“I know we trust each other and finally we got the win which is great for the team.”
The weekend before the HSBC London Sevens, Fiji’s Semi Radradra was playing at Twickenham for the Barbarians, wowing crowds with his off-loading skills and disregard for more traditional methods of playing rugby.
Following his performance, Radradra, whose nickname the “Trailer” and Fijan teammate Josua Tuisova both joined Fiji’s sevens outfit in London, joining a team that led the world series and was a on a three-tournament winning streak.
By the end of the tournament, Radradra had lived up to his billing and was named the HSBC Player of the Final. It was a whirlwind two days at Twickenham but eyes were fixed on Radradra, whether fans or opposition players.
At 6ft, 3in and almost 16 stone, the 25-year-old scored three tries across the weekend and was involved in almost every key play Fiji put together.
In the final itself, despite not scoring, he was a key man in both defence and attack and his presence alone was enough to deter South Africa’s attacks coming down his defensive channel.
Radradra’s efforts over the tournament have helped Fiji maintain their top spot in the world series standings, just seven points ahead of rivals Blitzboks.
The Pacific islanders now have five tournament wins from nine tournaments and enter the final round in Paris as the in-form side.
