Seditious duo jailed for two years

FORMER Opposition parliamentarians Mosese Bulitavu along with Fiji United Freedom Party leader Jagath Karunaratne were sentenced to more than two years by the Suva Magistrates Court today.The duo was convicted of spraying painted words in different places between Suva and Nausori in 2011 with the seditious intention of bringing into hatred or contempt or excite disaffection against the government of Fiji.

Magistrate Deepika Prakash handed down a sentence of two years, five months and 13 days for Bulitavu while Karunaratne was sentenced to two years, five months and 16 days.

Magistrate Prakash who set a non-parole period of 18 months for the sentences also dismissed an application for bail pending the appeal for the prison sentences.
