THE 2018 Kaila! Star Search competition shot off with power-packed performances from the 25 contestants at the Village 6 Cinemas in Suva last night.
The Fiji Times editor-in-chief Fred Wesley said the newspaper was proud and honoured to be hosting the event again this year.
“Over the years we have seen brave young men and women take the stage to showcase their talents,” Wesley said.
“Some have gone on to carve a name for themselves in the international arena.”
He said Kaila! was a newspaper specially focused on youth issues and was inserted in The Fiji Times every Wednesday.
“For Fiji Times Ltd, the Kaila! Star Search is another platform to support our youths,” he said.
He said the show was the longest running talent show in the country and many had used this stage to further or kick-start their careers.
“Many of these talents have their own life stories and some are overcoming challenges to be here,” he said.
Five contestants will be eliminated from last night’s event and the names of the 20 contestants moving into the next round will be published in tomorrow’s Sunday Times.
The show, which in the past had produced new talents in the country, was won by Lydia Taukafa last year.
The event is supported by Damodar Events Group.
