Sea Eagles celebrate rugby league victory

KINOYA Sea Eagles rugby league club yesterday celebrated its Fiji National Rugby League premier win with its major sponsors, Pacific Energy.

The oil company partnered the club in this season’s Vodafone club competition and has promised to continue the partnership next season when the Sea Eagles features in the Top 8 competition.

Kinoya Sea Eagles, coached by former Fiji Bati Isimeli Soqe, started the season playing in the Nasinu zone before moving to the Suva zone.

The club won the zone and proceeded to the knockout competitions before finally walking away with the premier trophy after winning the grand final.

Soqe said they acknowledged the support of Pacific Energy.

“We’re so thankful to them for sponsoring us through the season,” he said.

“And now they have agreed to sponsor again next year where we will be playing the Top 8. It is going to be a lot tougher and I believe the groundwork and off-season needed to be well-planned so we can match the performance of those teams in the top competition.”

Soqe took off his hat to his brigade who made lots of sacrifices to win the premier competition.

“I’m thankful to the players, supporters and our sponsors and the whole Kinoya community for their support to the boys.

“This is a young developing club but we’re already reaping the fruit of hard work. The challenge now is to maintain or lift our performance to another level,” he added.
