Savusavu man wins copra farmer award; Opens new drier

WINNING the best copra farmer award this year has been a timely recognition for Brija Nand’s struggle to survive in the industry.
Mr Nand who is a farmer at Dawana Estate outside Savusavu witnessed another milestone in his journey as he opened his second copra drier today.
Assisted by the Ministry of Agriculture, line Minister Inia Seruiratu officially opened the drier and also visited Mr Nand’s estate.
Mr Seruiratu told Mr Nand that the copra industry was faced with labour challenges.
“Young children do not want to be copra farmers, they want white collar jobs,” he said.
