FIJI Airways Fiji 7s winger Eroni Sau has secured a spot in the 7s squad for the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast next month.
The Fiji Drua utility backline was overwhelmed when he saw his name.
Sau remembered how his rugby journey began and was always thankful to the Almighty for helping him especially when he was on the verge of giving up.
Sau said he was ready to play his first Commonwealth Games and if he was chosen again for Hong Kong, he would take on the challenge to make his country proud.
“Everything is slowly coming to place and I am grateful to the Almighty for giving me a chance to prove myself,” he said.
“It is never easy to represent your country, whether it’s sports or work, it is always very challenging.”
When asked about his plans for Hong Kong, Sau quoted former Hong Kong 7s winner Isake Katonibau saying: “If you haven’t played in the Hong Kong 7s then you’re not a Fijian.”
The Naviti, Yasawa native says he has given his full support towards the team and coach Gareth Baber.
“We had learnt a lot in our last HSBC 7s series, winning two tournaments, we know we can deliver our best performance.”
Sau acknowledged the senior players and how their leadership has influenced every member of the squad.
The selected players are:
Semi Kunatani, Jasa Veremalua, Josua Vakurinabili, Paula Dranisinukula, Kalione Nasoko, Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou, Amenoni Nasilasila, Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Mesulame Kunavula, Eroni Sau, Alasio Naduva, Samisoni Viriviri
