HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Rookie of the Year Eroni Sau has directed his attention to winning the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens next month in San Francisco, USA.

Dubbed as the “Sledgehammer” Sau said he wanted to win the main event before he left for club rugby commitments in France.

“I am looking forward to next month and I know I have to do my best to be selected in the squad,” Sau said.

“Winning the Rookie of the Year award, and five tournaments is a big achievement and I thank the boys for their teamwork and I know we are capable of winning the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens next month. “I haven’t won any medal and I would love to win a gold medal for my country as this will be my last chance to represent the Fiji 7s team before I head to France.”

The 28-year-old police officer was offered a two-year contract with France-based Top 14 rugby side Perpignan and he has played 46 games for the Fiji 7s team scoring 165 points and 33 tries.

“I believe we are capable of winning the 2018 Rugby World Cup Sevens and all it needs is teamwork and everything will fall in place,” Sau said.

The Yasawa lad will leave for his new club after the world cup next month with his wife and children.
