Samoa’s police commissioner has conceded his officers have not been doing a good job of patrolling the Apia seawall.

Fuiavailili Egon Keil told Newsline the police will step up their patrols in response to calls to protect people using the waterfront.

The call was made after the death of a Chinese national last month.

Fuiavailili said there will be extra resource put in to the main trouble spots, especially behind the Government Building.

He said the area needed more street lights, and trees and other obstacles that shroud the area should be removed.
