Rotarians bring gifts for special children

THE Rotary Club of Hilo, Hawaii visited the Nadi Centre for Special Education on Wednesday, bearing gifts that will benefit 158 students.

Club president Steven Handy said the group had been assisting the school for more than 10 years.

“We have a lot of history with the school and we always like to help whenever we can,” he said.

“This is our first visit to Fiji this year and we wanted to bring some of these items that we know will help the students and the school.”

He said the group would visit other schools in the Western Division.

“We are here with our first ever female Hawaiian governor, Nalani Flinn, and we want to come and show her some of the schools that we help each year.

“We love Fiji and we want to continue to help out in places that need it.”

Nadi Centre for Special Education head teacher Reena Devi said they were grateful to the Rotary Club of Hilo for being a long-time supporter of the school and its development.

Gifted items also included rugs, reading materials and stationery for children with special needs.
