Update: 5:47PM A MAN was sentenced to four years imprisonment after being convicted of one count of attempted robbery he committed in February this year.
While handing down sentence at the High Court in Suva yesterday, Justice Daniel Goundar told Marika Bola that the purpose of the sentence is both special and general deterrence if the taxi drivers are to be protected against wanton disregard of their safety.
The Court heard that the 23-year-old father of one had voluntarily pleaded guilty to attacking a taxi driver at Flagstaff in Suva with two others and tried to take the taxi.
Justice Goundar declined to fix a non-parole period to give Bola a chance to rehabilitate while serving his sentence which means he will have to serve the full four years in prison before he can be released back to the public.
