ROAD works to stabilise the hilly roads of Solevu in Bua has started.

A team from Fulton Higan Hiways are at the site, near Nawaido Village junction carrying out works which would ease daily travel for commuters.

The company’s construction foreman Meli Kapaiwai said they would stabilise the steep climb with cement.

“What we are doing now is a traction seal, by adding a cement base to add strength for the road itself,” he said.

“Cement stabilization uses a higher percentage of stiff and rigid materials, making the road surface more durable and resistant during prolonged wet conditions.

“Previously even during a slight downpour, buses would struggle up the steep hill because of the slippery conditions.”

With their work at the site, Mr Kapaiwai said commuters would travel better on this steep incline.
