THE completed road works on various sections in Naitasiri have improved the access and safety of thousands of Fijians within the province.

Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) general manager Central Division Aram Goes said those sites were programmed for upgrade works to provide more reliable all-weather access and improve journey times to those populated and frequently-travelled communities in Naitasiri.

“These works targeted specific hill sections that were difficult to access by buses, along with school frontages and several surrounding villages to treat dust nuisance, improving the living conditions and overall well-being of these communities,” Mr Goes said.

He said in total, 4.3km of new sealed road was constructed.

Mr Goes said drainage works involved improving existing under-road culverts and driveway drainage systems to properly divert the road surface run-off away from the road carriageway.

“Significant rock protection works were also carried out to protect roadside embankments from flood damage in locations where larger waterways cross under the road.”
