Road access ease

VILLAGERS of Matamaivere and Tubalevu and residents of Dabolo and Namalo settlements in Tailevu now have access to better roads.
This follows the completion of road upgrades to these villages and settlements by Fulton Hogan Hiways (FHH) benefiting as many as 500 people.
Tailevu district representative Sakaia Mua said there were times when the roads were inaccessible for vehicles to help them transfer their produce to the market.
“When there was a heavy downpour, the road would be very slippery and sometimes students miss school,” Mr Mua said.
“We farmers would have to carry our produce on our backs and walk right to the main road where the carriers are but now carrier drivers can pick and drop us at our homes despite the bad weather.”
Mr Mua said the road upgrade was a relief to many.
“This is a big relief and we are so happy that the road is finally being upgraded.”
“I thought I will be carrying my produce until the day I die, but thank you FHH, all this has ended,” said Mr Mua.
Meanwhile, Fulton Hogan Hiways will upgrade three kilometres of access roads including the removal of high shoulders, opening blocked outlets, the preparation of the existing surface for the supply and spread of gravel, and the final stage of grading and compaction.
