Rika to name team

NATIONAL cricket coach Josefa Rika will announce the national squad after the Easter Championship in Suva next week.
The squad will compete in the World T20 qualifer in August and some internationals Fiji would be invited to attend.
“The Easter tournament is going to be the base for selection for players interested in representing Fiji in August,” Rika said.
“A squad will be announced on April 2 and trials will begin on April 3 and then another one from April 9-11 before we announce the final 14-member squad on the following Friday.”
Rika said he wanted to see best performance from players.
“There will be 12 teams taking part with Rotuma making a return after a long absence in the Easter Championship.
“The women’s final will be played on the same day as the men’s which will be a first.
“The teams in the men’s division will fight for a new trophy,” he said.
“This tournament will also allow selectors to select the junior high performance squad in preparation for next year’s ICC U19 World Cup Qualifier.
“The prizemoney this year will be $5000 for the winner and $2500 for the runner-up.
“The plate competition will also be the first in the history of the tournament with the winner walking away with $800.”
Meanwhile, Cricket Fiji is urging fans to support their teams as they build towards the World T20 qualifer in August.
The championship starts tomorrow at Albert Park in Suva which experienced heavy rain yesterday.
