RHD patients to undergo operation from visiting specialists

ABOUT 30 patients will undergo rheumatic heart disease (RHD) operation at the Colonial War Memorial (CWM) hospital from tomorrow.

This is after a team of 80 specialised doctors arrived into the country through the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation initiative.

Consultant heart Surgeon at the Auckland City Hospital Dr Parma Nand said they were planning operate on patients who suffered from (RHD) with mainly heart valve problemsHe said the cost of one operation was estimated at $NZ60,000 ($F84,000) per patient.

“So hopefully we will have 25 to 30 patients to operate on. We have a big team this year with about 80 personnel’s coming from New Zealand, Australia, USA and England,” Dr Nand said
