Rest in peace Mac

I was saddened to read about the passing away of former Flying Fijians coach Mac McCallion.

The late Mac McCallion was part of our 15s coaching panel in 2003 and guided our boys to the 2003 RWC in Australia, which was won by England.

The boots of Wilkinson brought joy to the Roses.

Fiji boasted names like Alfred Uluinayau, the late Rabeni, Greg Smith, Rasila, Seta, Mocelutu, Katalau, Gadolo, Sisa, Rawaqa, Sewabu, Veitayaki, Delasau, Ruivadra, Serevi, Rabaka, Mojee, Little, Doviverata, Ligairi, Caucau, Naevo and Vunibaka.

Fiji started poorly and got thumped by France 61-18. Our boys regrouped to beat USA (19-18) and Japan (41-13).

The last pool match against Scotland was a thriller and Caucau became an instant hit among fans with his solo effort tries.

However, our boys bid the tournament goodbye after the narrow 22-20 loss to the Bravehearts.

Mac was straightforward but had a good relationship with his players.

Just like former coach Brad Johnstone, he believed in working hard to get results.

I thank and salute Mac for his vision, dedication and passion towards rugby.

May you rest in peace, Mac!
