THE Fiji country gender assessment report by Asian Development Bank in 2015 states that only 19 per cent of businesses are registered to women and most of these are micro and small businesses.

This was highlighted by Fiji Women’s Rights Movement’s (FWRM) program director Kaushal Sharma while speaking on the issue of why women’s inclusion should matter to the private sector.

Ms Sharma said the complexity of starting a formal sector business caused most women entrepreneurs to keep their businesses informal.

She said Fiji ranked 127th out of 144 countries in terms of economic participation in the 2017 global gender gap report.

More on this story in today’s (Wednesday, September 19, 2018) edition of The Fiji Times.
