A REMOVAL notice has been issued to the owner of the passenger vessel Sinu-I-Wasa 3 that ran aground in Levuka, Ovalau, two years ago.
While responding to an oral question by Opposition Member of Parliament, Ro Kiniviliame Kiliraki on Government’s commitment to remove the sunken vessel at the Levuka wharf, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Parveen Kumar said the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) would oversee the removal of the ship because the incident occurred outside the ports boundary.
“The ship owner has engaged a company for the removal of the ship and has purchased equipment from overseas to assist with the operation,” Mr Kumar said.
“The owner has also asked for some time because that ship needs to be tugged and removed.”
The passenger vessel ran aground during Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston in February 2016.
