FORMER Water Authority of Fiji chief executive officer Opetaia Ravai has been selected as a provisional candidate for the Social Democratic Liberal Party.

This was confirmed by SODELPA leader Sitiveni Rabuka, who said they were awaiting Mr Ravai to complete all relevant processes involved before his name was announced.

Mr Rabuka said Mr Ravai had applied and his application was considered by the party.

“He applied and he was interviewed and he is in the process of selection,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Right now I can confirm that he has been selected as a provisional candidate pending whether he submits the requirements or not.”

Meanwhile, SODELPA provisional candidate Mikaele Leawere believes there is a need to review the three-year employment contracts for civil servants.

This, he said, would be one of the issues that he would be advocating on.

Mr Leawere said, he would be contesting this year’s general election under a SODELPA ticket because he believed that the party has what it takes to lead the country.

Mr Leawere, a former school teacher and the Opposition Spokesperson for Education said, this year he would be looking at ensuring that workers were given the best working conditions and were also well looked after.

Mr Leawere added SODELPA was a party that listened and it would work to ensure the betterment of all Fijians.
