RATU Navula College sprinters scooped the senior division 200m gold medals during the Coca Cola Nadi Athletics Zone competition at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

Merewalesi Marama stamped her name in her first year of the Nadi competition clocking 27.11sec to win the gold medal in the senior girls while Taginamakadre won his second gold medal after winning the 200m senior boys with a time of 22.63secs.

The two sprinters have set their focus of maintaining the consistency against top sprinters from around the country at the upcoming Coca-Cola Games.

Marama, who ran for Beqa-Yanuca in previous years, is confident of her chances against top sprinters from Adi Cakobau School, Jasper Williams High School, Saint Joseph’s and Suva Grammar.

She said she failed to win any medal in the past years, but would be out to stamp her mark this year.

“I have prepared well for this year and this win will motivate me to work hard,” she said.

“This is going to be a good test for me and I am ready for the challenge.

Taginamakadre echoed the similar sentiments.

He said he was looking forward for a good outing in Suva and to compete against big names such as Shane Tuvusa of Natabua High School.

“I am confident of my chances and I am ready,” he said.

“I won the silver medal at our school inter-house and I am delighted to have improved my performance.

“I will continue to work hard to win the 200m senior boys gold medal in Suva,” added Taginamakadre.
