LEADER of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa says the Ram Navami and Vasant Navratri celebrations are a great source of inspiration to promote Hindi and Hinduvta.
Ro Teimumu said Ram Navami had been an important feature of Hindu festivals in Fiji since the girmit era.
“It is a celebration of Hindu identity and success in Fiji and among the Hindus of Fijian origin in overseas,” she said.
“This week, Hindus in Fiji and around the world are celebrating the dual festivals of Shree Ram Navami and Vasant Navratri which marks the beginning of the Hindu calendar year 2075.
“Ram Navami has been a staple feature of Hindu festivals in Fiji since the girmit era, leading to the establishment of various Hindu organisations, temples and schools.
“It is a celebration of Hindu identity and success in Fiji and among the Hindus of Fijian origin in overseas.
Ro Teimumu also said the recital of Ramayana had a special significance during this event encouraging humans to shun the path of evil and abide by the Word of God for material and spiritual progress. She reiterated that last year the chiefs and people of Burebasaga joined her to confer the title of “Luvedra Na Ratu” to the descendants of the girmitiya. “As such, we are with all the Hindus in Fiji and overseas to mark this occasion.
“I wish you all an inspirational and joyous Ram Navami and Vasant Navratri 2018,” she said.
The birth of Lord Rama will be marked this Monday.
