Rakiraki residents to benefit from $1.3m desilting activity

ABOUT 4000 people in Rakiraki Town will benefit from Government’s $1.3million desilting of the Nakauvadra River, says Waterways Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy.

“Rakiraki Town is the main business centre of Ra province and the core business in this area is commercial and agriculture,” Dr Reddy said.

“The population of Ra province is approximately 30,000 and Rakiraki municipality has approximately 4000 that will benefit from the desilting.”

Rakiraki Town Council CEO Rakesh Chandra said the municipality had been hit by 22 major flooding events in the first four months of this year.

The desilting works are being carried out by Sivam’s Digging Works.
