THE St. Pius X Parish in Raiwaqa celebrated its 50th anniversary today (August 25).
In an interview with the Fiji Times, Parish pastoral council chairman Dan Burese said the week long Golden Jubilee celebrations has united all those who grew up in Raiwaqa and attended the parish.
“We have people travelling from all over the world just to be here today (yesterday) and the week-long celebrations has indeed been fulfilling,” Mr Burese said.
He said gone were the days where Raiwaqa was tagged with the stigma of being a crime prone area.
“This perception has slowly changed over the years and we try to do as much as we can for the communities here especially for the youths,” he said.
With the theme “A New Chapter, A New Beginning” Mr Burese said the aim now is to keep journeying together as a parish and strive to become more inclusive.
