THE annual Easter Open Tennis Championship suffered a major blow with the adverse conditions washing out the opening two days of competition at the Regional Tennis Complex in Lautoka.
The tournament, sponsored by WG Genera Pacific Ltd attracted more than 90 players with several coming from Vanuatu, Samoa and Australia
Tennis Fiji secretary Sachin Reddy said they could not get a hit off because of the wet conditions. Reddy said the safety of the participants was paramount.
“We feel for the players who have travelled from overseas for this competition,” he said. “It is really unfortunate but the weather is beyond our control. If we get the tournament started then we will have reduced games. It will only be singles matches because we have only two days.
