Damaged

roads

The road in most Western towns suffered extensive damage from the floodwaters. I am sure the repair cost will be worth millions of dollars. Does the Fiji Roads Authority have a budget for the road repair?

Easter

floods

During Easter holidays I was at my family home in Sabeto, Nadi and the flood that we had on Sunday was the biggest I saw in my life. Even bigger than the one during Hurricane Bebe in 1972. One of the reasons could be the way trees are being cut in the mountains and no planting being done.

This has caused a lot of erosion on the slopes and that soil is being washed into the river.

During our days we were told to cut one tree and plant two for the same but now only cut but no planting. I believe this is another factor that is affecting climate change.

We must act now before it gets worse.

Air-crash

probe

It’s been weeks since the independent investigations into the unfortunate air-crash in Macuata took place, yet no results have eventuated.

I believe we are basically “throwing money at problems” but it seems nothing has resulted. It is in the public interest that we should know the results of the investigation and we demand that for aviation safety especially tourism and commercial passengers. That is not unreasonable to ask. Otherwise, I believe the secrecy only exacerbates the inequality.

Super

floods

Floods will soon be part of our lives in Fiji. What I used to see in the news is now happening here. We are having super floods. I know the authorities are doing their best. Could we be enlightened on the progress of what is being done? The people need to know what measures are being implemented to curb flooding.

We don’t want to hear the solution is in the pipeline.

Emotional

moment

The medal ceremony of the 90 kg Woman’s category Weight-lifting where our very own Eileen Cikanamatana won gold was mind-blowing. The emotional Eileen with tears down her cheek as she received her gold medal and then hugging the silver and bronze winners and finally standing tall and still crying made all of us feel proud and emotional as well. Vinaka Eileen, at 18 years you have beaten the best of best.

Go Fiji, go.
