QUICK action by firefighters in Labasa prevented a government quarters from being completely burnt on Thursday evening.
NFA chief executive John O’Connor confirmed his men in Labasa had received an emergency fire call from residents of the Marine Quarters, opposite Labasa College, at 5.20pm on Thursday this week.
Mr O’Connor said the alleged incident occurred after children inside the house were playing, unattended, with a matchbox.
“It was fortunate that our officers got to the scene in time just to control the fire, which had begun to get out of hand,” he said.
