Produce to drop

THE dry weather spell experienced in the Western Division will have an impact on the growth of sugar cane next year.
Fiji Sugar Corporation executive chairman Abdul Khan said this would be attributed to the scarcity of water.
He said because of this, the FSC would ask for financial assistance from government in its national budget submissions.
“We will start thinking through the budget for next year and I’m sure the present weather and its impact could dictate what the sugarcane industry may expect from government,” Mr Khan said.
“With the current dry spell, water will be expected to dry up and that will affect water supply to farms.
“It’s not necessarily going to affect production but will affect the growth of next year’s crops.”
