THE Fijian Government will continue to take proactive measures to ensure workers leaving our shores for overseas employment are given the highest protection and guidance.
Minister of Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jone Usamate said the ministry had also conducted labour inspections of suspected individuals who were engaged in illegal recruitment drives.
“To date, my ministry has prosecuted two companies with one currently before the Employment Relations Tribunal whilst two other individuals from Labasa and Sigatoka, respectively, are being investigated jointly by the Labour Compliance Section and the Fiji Police Force,” Mr Usamate said.
Mr Usamate has also urged members of the public to contact the ministry should they find any recruitment of overseas employment opportunities from illegal or unregistered agencies or individuals.
He said Fijians should not be swayed easily and to take heed of the ministry’s advice.
