Presidential reception to end week-long UNIFIL commemoration

THE 40th Anniversary of the United National Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) week-long celebrations came to an end last night with the a reception hosted by President Major General (Ret’d) Jioji Konrote and the First Lady, Sarote Konrote.

The reception was attended by present and ex-servicemen along with their families, members of the diplomatic corps and Cabinet ministers at the Borron House in Suva.

Deputy secretary for the Ministry of Defence and National Security Ilai Moceica said the occasion reflected the sacrifices our forces had dedicated themselves to over for the last 40 years.

“It is such a memorable and moving occasion because this is where we see our peacekeepers go on the call of duty by our leaders at that time soon after Fiji gained independence,” Mr Moceica said.
