NATIONAL rep Rajnesh Prasad will defend the Victa Clark Championship at the Lautoka Bowling Club this weekend.
Prasad was part of the Fiji team which won a gold medal in the men’s triples and a bronze in the fours at the Pacific Games which ended in Papua New Guinea last week. The Portion Pak Fiji Ltd manager who made his national debut at the PG said he was ready to defend the title.
Prasad said the aim was to maintain his form in order to secure a spot in the Fiji team for the upcoming Asia Pacific Bowls Championship.
“It was great to win medals on my first outing with the national side,” he said.
“It has boosted my confidence as I head to defend the Victa Clark title.
“The Lautoka greens will be a lot different from PNG and I hope to acclimatise early.”
At the PG, Prasad teamed up with David Aitcheson and Arun Kumar to win the triples gold and they were joined by Waisea Senibici in the fours bronze victory.
All the other national reps are expected to fight for the Victa Clark title as well. Bowls Fiji treasurer Rick Eyre said the national selectors would be present at the venue.
“There hasn’t been much bowls action in more than a month,” Eyre said.
“We expect a record entry. The players will also be trying to impress with the Asia Pacific Championship in Christchurch in October.”
Prasad of the Nadi Sports Club upset favourite Lema Matailevu 21-11 to win the Victa Clark title last year.
G Maxwell won the inaugural title back in 1967.
