THE Cuvu College Under 18 team is through to the semi-finals of the Fiji Secondary School Schools Powerade Super Deans Rugby Championship.

The Sigatoka-based side held on in the dying minutes to beat a spirited Lelean Memorial School 20-14 in the first quarter-final today.

Number eight Josateki Tuituba scored the only try of the first spell as Cuvu College led 10-nil at half time.

Wing Inoke Kurukuruvakatini added another for Cuvu College to extend the teams’ lead to 17-nil in the second spell.

Just when it looked smooth sailing for Cuvu College, LMS bounced back with tries to locks Vueti Tupou and Donasio Vulivuli to close the gap to 17-14.

Cuvu College converted a penalty to extend the lead to 20-14 and held on the last few waves of attack from LMS to book a spot in the semi-finals.

Cuvu College will play the winner of the RKS-Nasinu Seconday match in the semi-final next week.

In the Under 16 grade semi-finals, the results:

– Queen Victoria School beat Ratu Navula College 15-7;
– Natabua High School edged MBHS 23-20 in extra-time; and
– RKS beat Nasinu Secondary 20-13.
