THE Commissioner Northern’s office will review the possibility of a fireworks ban this Diwali if the earlier proposed fire ban is enforced in the North.
Speaking during an interview yesterday, Commissioner Northern Alipate Bolalevu confirmed that he was still waiting for updates from the Task Force for Bush Fires and Emergency Water on whether to enforce the proposed fire ban.
Mr Bolalevu said the purpose of the ban was to stop the negligent fire setters.
“However the usage of firecrackers and exposed lights like diya and candles may still pose a threat to the cane farms especially in these dry conditions,” he said.
Mr Bolalevu said they would work closely with the National Fire Authority before making any decision.
NFA CEO John O’Connor said they had no control over the ban of fireworks.
