Police train for election

THE Fiji Police Force is currently holding election training for its officers on Kadavu.

Police acting director operations Senior Superintendent of Police Livai Driu said the election training had been going on for some time now because the force was committed to providing a conducive environment for a free and fair election this year.

SSP Driu said the in-house training had been completed for the Western Division and Labasa and the focus now was on maritime islands.

SSP Driu could not confirm the number of police officers needed for this year’s election. But in the 2014 General Election, the force had called in 3000 police officers who were not rostered for normal duties.

“We will look after the polling venues. That is one of our functions; we must look after the polling venues. We are prepared for the election and we will be assisting the elections office in providing a safe and fair election,” SSP Driu said.
