MEMBERS of the public should expect more police presence on the streets, shopping centers, picnic spots and on the road this long Easter weekend to ensure citizens safety.
Police acting director operations Senior Superintendent Livai Driu said the Easter long weekend was a time of celebration and meeting up with families and members of the public had been reminded to take ownership of their safety during this long weekend.
“We are anticipating a lot of movement in and out of major city and town areas for social and recreational gatherings and we are urging everyone to plan their travel well,” he said.
SSP Driu said they would increase visibility on the major highways and random breathalyser checks would be conducted as they try to also address the issue of drinking and driving.
He encouraged parental supervision and called on guardians to be vigilant with their young ones.
“We are urging parents and guardians to keep a watchful eye over their children. We can get caught up in the merrymaking that we lose sight of our children’s activities and this is a time where they can become innocent victims of road accidents.”
