THE Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) is planning to have the Fiji Bati coach based here in Fiji.

FNRL chariman Peni Musunamasi said with the coach based at home, it would help with their development in the grassroots level and having more locals in the next World Cup in 2021.

“As in the news, NRL are planning on competitions between Fiji, PNG, Samoa and Tonga for a Pacific Champion next year. I have written to NRL if we can get a confirmation soon as we can plan and develop our players way ahead of time,” he said.

“The Asia Pacific Rugby League Federation which includes these Pacific Island countries as full member has now got a full time General Manager Jeremy Edwards. Hopefully him in place we can work together to have more Competitions throughout the Pacific.

“The coaching position will be advertised soon which is supported by the Fiji Sports Commission and we are also looking at financial opportunities to develop our land in Narere to host 2019 games for a start to 2019 Season.”
