PEOPLE living in Naviyago and Lovu seaside outside Lautoka were forced to leave their homes before midday yesterday because floodwaters had inundated their homes.
Soniya Devi, 25, said floodwaters entered their home after a few hours of heavy downpour.
“We just had to leave everything and seek shelter at Lovu Sangam,” she said.
Naviyago villager Eseroma Naio said they evacuated the children in the village first.
“When we saw that there was continuous rain we knew we had to evacuate the place because floodwaters were also rising,” he said.
“Our safety is very important.
“We don’t really care about what is left behind in our homes, it’s our life that matters the most.”
