THE Fiji netball side completed its 2018 Commonwealth Games pool matches winless at the Brisbane Convention Centre at Gold Coast, Australia yesterday.
Fiji was demolished 73-46 by Northern Ireland, who scored the first goal 14 seconds into the match.
Northern Ireland led from the first quarter 14-13, slotted 18 to Fiji’s 11 — increasing their lead in the second quarter for a 32-24 heading into the breather.
They returned with 22 more goals to Fiji’s 9 in the third spell and netted 19 to Fiji’s 13 in the last quarter to wallop the Fijian netters 73-46.
The netball competition moves into the placings starting with the 12th and 11th positions today.
“I was pleased with the effort. It showed courage when we had been decimated by injuries during the week. The girls showed their best performance in this game,” coach Vicky Wilson said.
“It was always going to be tough when we are ranked 12th and there are 12 teams in the competition.”
Wilson said the team would focus on preparing for the World Netball Championship next year when they return home next week.
“We have the Oceania qualification next week and we will do some assessments because of the injuries,” Wilson said.
