SEVENTY nine applications have been received by the Freedom Alliance Party from interested individuals intending to contest the upcoming election under the party banner.

Party leaderJagath Karunaratne confirmed that out of the 79 applications, 31 have been short listed for interview.

“We are looking at candidates who will preach the party policies to our supporters and not to run negative campaigns on other political parties because they have their own political ideologies,” Mr Karunaratne said.

Campaign centres, he said have been set up in the Western, Northern and Central Division under the supervision of campaign coordinators.

“We’ve already started campaigns in the Western Division including the Yasawa’s and one of our officers is overseeing operations there and other divisions will start soon.

“We are very much involved with other parties and we will continue that discussions even if it happens until the writ of elections is issued nd we want to see whether we can form some sort of unity,” Mr Karunaratne said.

Meanwhile, he said the party’s manifesto was now being formulated and would be released in the next few weeks.
