POLITICAL party agents for 2018 General Elections will be able to stand next to the tables where officials will count the ballot papers at various count stations.

Fiji’s Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem clarified this at a press conference last night in response to concerns raised by a political party yesterday on the distance between the party agents and the counting table.

Fiji Labour Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry said yesterday that this had not been clarified yet by the Fijian Elections Office (FEO).

“How difficult will it be to lift the ballot paper and show it to everyone before putting it in the batch? Looking at the number of voters at various polling stations, I don’t think it will take very long. The agents have been told to stand next to the table. How far is next to the table?” asked Mr Chaudhry.

Mr Saneem responded: “The count will take place on a table. The political party agents will stand next to the table. Now will someone make these political parties understand what next to the table means? It is so simple.”
